Job Description
About the Position:
An exciting opportunity exists for a motivated and experienced Coordinator of Environmental Health and Event Approval to join the Shire of Broome for a 2-year parental leave cover, with potential for extension.
This position is responsible for leading and managing the Environmental Health and Event Approval team to deliver high-quality and efficient services for the Shire of Broome. They will lead a small team comprising two Environmental Health Officers, a Water Sampling Technical Officer, and an Administration Officer – Environmental Health and Events.
This role ensures the Shire complies with the Health Act 1911, Public Health Act 2016, Food Act 2008, Caravan Parks and Camping Grounds Act 1995, Local Government Act 1995, Health Local Laws 2016, and other relevant legislation, providing advice where appropriate. The position involves daily engagement with the public and stakeholders, offering the opportunity to positively influence the health of residents and visitors.
This is a fixed term, full time position that will be based at the Shire of Broome Administration Office, work hours Monday - Friday 7.45am- 4.30pm. Flexible Work Arrangements can be considered for the right Candidate.
About You:
Our ideal candidate will have demonstrated knowledge of Environmental Health legislation, principles, and practices, with a minimum of three years’ experience in a local government Environmental Health role. A Bachelor of Science (Environmental Health), or another qualification approved by the Chief Health Officer under section 18 of the Public Health Act 2016, is essential. Experience in delivering health promotion, managing regulatory functions such as events, trading licenses, and mobile food vans, as well as training or experience in mosquito management, will be highly regarded.
Most importantly, we are looking for someone with a 'can-do' attitude and highly developed written and verbal communication skills.
