Job Description

About the Position:

We are looking for an experienced Weed Management Specialist to play a key role in protecting the Shire's environmental, cultural and amenity assets from invasive weeds.

Reporting to the Parks and Gardens Coordinator, this role is responsible for delivering operational actions under the Shire of Broome Weed Management Strategy and Action Plan, protecting Broome's extraordinary natural environment, cultural heritage and community spaces from invasive weeds.

The role covers integrated weed control programs, weed mapping and GIS data collection, stakeholder and community engagement, staff training, and the management of equipment, chemical inventory and rehabilitation activities.

About You:

As our preferred candidate you will have demonstrated experience in environmental land management or conservation with a practical focus on weed or pest management. You will have sound knowledge of integrated pest management techniques, local flora, and WHS requirements for chemical handling and application.

You'll be a confident communicator, capable of engaging with community groups and stakeholders, and able to develop training materials and deliver community education activities. Self-motivated and organised, you'll be comfortable working independently across a diverse landscape in the tropical Broome climate.

A Certificate III (or above) in Conservation and Ecosystem Management or related field, along with a current C Class Driver's Licence and White Card are required.
