This is a hands-on leadership role - reporting to the Manager Operations, you'll oversee maintenance and improvement works across parks, gardens and open spaces, and lead a small team of specialists and a Team Leader who oversees operational staff.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading daily and seasonal scheduling through effective deployment of staff, plant and equipment
  • Managing the Shire Nursery in line with operational requirements and community commitments

  • Undertaking inspections and audits to verify service level performance and presentation standards

About You

You'll bring demonstrated experience coordinating or supervising parks and open space operations - whether in horticulture, turf, irrigation or amenity maintenance. This is central to the role, and we need someone who understands what it takes to keep public spaces looking their best while managing a motivated, safety-focused team.

Beyond that, you'll have:

  • Proven people leadership capability, with experience mentoring Team Leaders and developing operational staff, fostering a culture of accountability, teamwork and safety
  • A strong commitment to visible safety leadership, with demonstrated experience embedding safe work practices and promoting a proactive safety mindset across teams
  • Sound understanding of contemporary horticultural, turf and landscape maintenance practices, plant and equipment operation, and asset presentation standards
  • The ability to plan, schedule and monitor works programs, adjusting to meet seasonal and event-driven demands
  • Experience preparing and monitoring operational budgets, ensuring effective resource utilisation and value for money
  • Well-developed communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with staff, contractors and management
  • Competency in computer-based systems for work programming, asset management and reporting, including Microsoft Office
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, standards and codes of practice including occupational safety and health, environmental management and local government requirements

You will also need to hold, or be working towards:

  • Certificate III or higher in Horticulture, Turf Management, Landscaping or a related discipline
  • Formal training or qualifications in leadership, supervision or safety management, or willingness to attain
  • Current unrestricted C Class driver's licence
