Job Description
The Role
As Planning Officer you will provide professional and objective advice and information to Council, owners, developers and other key stakeholders in relation to land use planning and development within the Shire of Broome.
Provide advice and learning to the public and community members on matters relating to planning and development within the Shire of Broome with excellent customer service.
Participate in a team environment to facilitate development in accordance with Council's statutory obligations and adopted strategies and policies.
Optimise the improvement of planning services practices and processes.
Assist in tracking and administration of compliance for development approvals granted.
Monitoring alleged illegal development in accordance with legislation.
Undertake special projects within skill base and qualifications.
Developed verbal and written communications skills.
Developed communication and interpersonal skills, together with demonstrated negotiation skills.
Sound knowledge of statutory planning processes and procedures.
Demonstrated research and analytical skills.
Demonstrated ability to interpret and communicate planning issues, policies and procedures.
Proven ability to contribute effectively to Directorate by being a team player with well developed time management skills.
A demonstrated understanding of the principles of equal opportunity, occupational health and safety and other relevant legislation, and the willingness and capacity to implement or work within the relevant plans, policies and programs.
Qualifications and/or Training:
A qualification in any of the relevant fields.
Membership of or eligibility for membership of, a relevant professional body.
Desirable:
Previous working experience in a Local Government environment and exposure to regional planning issues.
