Job Description
The Role:
To supervise and coordinate Community Safety and Ranger Services to provide a highly efficient quality service to Shire of Broome residents, visitors and other stakeholders.
The key duties include but are not exhaustive to the following:
Provide professional advice and assistance on Ranger matters and maintain effective communication to other Council divisions, the public, developers, State Government departments and consultants, and effectively supervise Ranger Services generally.
Set rosters and allocate daily tasks for the Ranger team.
Generate educational material and assist with the generation of press releases to ensure community members and visitors are informed of relevant policy and legislative requirements.
Liaise effectively with relevant court, tribunal, external legal counsel where appropriate.
Review CCTV footage as required to assist in carrying out the day-to-day Ranger services.
Coordinate, assist and carry out the following functions - Animal Control, Parking and Vehicles, Litter management, Emergency Management, Bush Fire Control, General Law Enforcement relating to community safety and Ranger Services and Camping (including illegal camping)
Suitable qualification in a law enforcement, legal studies relevant field at Certificate IV level or higher. Examples include: Local Government Municipal A and B; Certificate IV in Local Government (Regulatory Services); Regulatory Officer Compliance (ROC) 1&2 or equivalent.
Highly developed written and verbal communication skills.
Excellent customer service skills
Highly developed negotiation, interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.
Computer skills in Microsoft Office products, including Outlook, Teams and Excel.
Minimum 3 years experience as a Local Government Ranger, Law Enforcement Officer, Compliance Officer or extensive experience in a related field.
Ability to interpret legislation in relation to Local Government Law Enforcement and Ranger Services.
Ability to motivate and coordinate a multi disciplined team.
Qualifications and/or Training:
Current unrestricted "C” class drivers license
National Police Clearance valid within three months
Desirable:
Certificate IV in Frontline Management or equivalent.
Computer skills and competency in SynergySoft.
Knowledge of investigation methods, interviewing techniques, and brief preparation.
Previous experience in emergency management services.
Current Senior First Aid Certificate.
4WD training highly desirable
